Man accused of killing ex-wife with shots to the head for not accepting the end of the relationship goes to jury trial

A man stands trial for the murder of his ex-wife, whom he allegedly shot in the head after the couple ended their relationship.

Fernando Rodrigues da Silva, 45, is facing trial for the alleged murder of his ex-wife, Beatriz Ribeiro Rocha Freitas, 25, who was shot in the head in an act of despair after she decided to end their relationship. The incident occurred on March 29, 2024, in Bálsamo, São Paulo, and Rodrigues surrendered to the police four days later. He has been in preventive detention since then, as the case is seen as a clear example of feminicide driven by possessive feelings. The public prosecutor's office has formally accused him based on the premise of their relationship's dynamics and the victim's decision to relocate after the breakup.
