TJ-SP accepts complaint by deputy Lucas Bove against ex-wife for defamation
The São Paulo Court of Justice accepted a defamation complaint by Deputy Lucas Bove against his ex-wife, influencer Cíntia Chagas, related to allegations of domestic violence and social media statements.
The São Paulo Court of Justice (TJ-SP) has accepted a complaint filed by state deputy Lucas Bove against his ex-wife, social media influencer Cíntia Chagas, for defamation, slander, and insult. This legal action arises amidst ongoing allegations of domestic violence, with Bove accused of having assaulted Chagas during their marriage in 2024. The judge overseeing the case has mandated that proceedings related to the domestic violence accusations remain confidential.
In his complaint, Bove contends that Chagas has violated the law by publicly sharing information about the investigation into the allegations on social media and in interviews, which he claims has harmed his reputation. Chagas's legal representative, attorney Gabriela Mansur, has remarked that the acceptance of this complaint does not imply any judgment of guilt against her client. She highlighted that while the legal team's stance is critical of such legal maneuvers, every citizen has a constitutional right to both action and defense in court.
Mansur further pointed out that it is not unusual for men accused of violence to employ tactics that reverse the victim-perpetrator roles, exploiting the legal system in an attempt to counter allegations. This case not only underscores the complexities of domestic violence accusations but also raises broader implications about how legal strategies may function in cases involving gender-based violence, particularly in shaping public narratives surrounding these issues.
