Ex-Raptor Porter signs with Seattle USBL team
Jontay Porter, a former Toronto Raptor, has signed with the Seattle SuperHawks in the re-launched United States Basketball League.
Jontay Porter, a former player for the Toronto Raptors, has joined the Seattle SuperHawks for the upcoming 2026 season of the United States Basketball League (USBL). This minor pro league, which is set to relaunch this spring, will feature eight teams, reviving its historical legacy as the 'League of Opportunity' that operated from 1985 to 2008. Porter's signing marks a significant step in his attempt to return to professional basketball after a two-year hiatus.
Porter, standing at 6'10", has faced considerable challenges in his career. In April 2024, he was banned for life from the NBA due to violations related to gambling, which included disclosing confidential information to bettors and wagering on games that involved the Raptors. Prior to the ban, he had a modest stat line averaging 4.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists over 26 games in the 2023-24 NBA season. His return to basketball through the USBL represents an opportunity for redemption and a chance to revive his career.
The USBL aims to provide a platform for players like Porter to showcase their talents and potentially catch the attention of NBA teams again. The league historically sent many players to the NBA, and with its revival, it seeks to maintain its reputation as a breeding ground for talent. The Seattle SuperHawks’ home opener is scheduled for March 7 against the Lilac City Legends, with Porter expected to make a significant impact as he resumes his professional playing career.
