The end of hopes for defense. The USK Prague basketball players failed against Zaragoza

USK Prague's basketball team was eliminated from the Euroleague after losing to Casademont Zaragoza, failing to defend their title.

The basketball team ZVVZ USK Prague has officially ended its title defense in the Euroleague, losing to Casademont Zaragoza with a score of 66-73. This defeat marked the conclusion of the playoff series, which they lost 0-2 in games, and for the first time since 2021, the Czech champions will not be advancing to the quarter-finals of the Final Six. This result is significant for the team, which has historically performed well in this tournament.

In the match, Prague struggled to recover from a previous home loss of 71-82 just a week prior. Despite a commendable performance from their French captain Valériane Ayayi, who scored 23 points, and Janelle Salaün with 15 points, the team could not find enough momentum to overcome Zaragoza. The best scorers for Zaragoza, Merritt Hempe and former USK player Veronika Voráčková, showed strong play that ultimately pushed their team to victory in the crucial second match.

This defeat not only ends the immediate prospects for USK Prague in this season's Euroleague but also raises questions about their future strategies and roster since they have been a dominant force in women’s basketball in Czechia. The end of their journey this season could signal the need for reassessment and rebuilding to regain their former competitive edge in upcoming tournaments.
