Missing for 1 Month Considered the 20th Victim of Feminicide in RS
Silvana Germann de Aguiar, missing since January 24, has been officially classified as the 20th feminicide victim in Rio Grande do Sul as authorities investigate her disappearance alongside that of her parents, who have also been missing for a month.
Silvana Germann de Aguiar, a 48-year-old woman who disappeared on January 24, has now been officially recognized as the 20th victim of feminicide in Rio Grande do Sul in 2026. This tragic update was confirmed by the Civil Police, who have been investigating her disappearance. Alongside her, her elderly parents, Isail and Dalmira Aguiar, age 69 and 70, respectively, have also been missing for the same duration. The ongoing investigation has raised serious concerns over the possibility of finding the entire family alive.
The police initially classified Silvana's case as a missing persons report; however, as the investigation progressed, new evidence emerged that led authorities to change the classification to feminicide. Waleska Alvarenga, the Director of the Division of Protection and Assistance for Women in Porto Alegre, indicated that the situation indicated a more grievous crime, prompting the shift in classification. Although no bodies have been recovered, the circumstances surrounding the case have heightened fears about the family's fate.
Investigators have identified Silvanaβs former partner as a suspect in the case, adding another layer of complexity to the investigation. As the case unfolds, it highlights the growing issue of feminicide in Brazil, particularly in Rio Grande do Sul, where such incidents have seen a rising trend. This situation not only affects the families involved but also raises vital conversations about domestic violence and the safety of women in the region.
