Will there be anything to carry? Economists forecast 2026 for transportation
Economists predict a stagnation in the Polish road transport sector's revenue for 2026 after several years of decline.
In 2025, Poland's freight transport sector is expected to experience a slight drop in revenue, marking the fourth consecutive year with revenues around 130 billion PLN. Analysts from PKO Research predict that in 2026, there will be no significant changes in the revenue of the road transport industry, indicating a prolonged period of economic stagnation. However, there is a cautious expectation for a minuscule improvement in the transport volumes.
The report highlights a concerning trend where the total freight transport conducted by Polish companies in 2025 was estimated to be 12% lower compared to 2019 figures. This downturn reflects ongoing challenges within the industry, which has been struggling to recover from earlier economic contractions. Despite this, PKO Research noted that the overall sectors contributing to freight transport will achieve a net profit in 2025, with an increase in total financial results to 2.4 billion PLN for the first half of the year, primarily driven by gains in road and pipeline transport.
Looking toward the future, the role of infrastructure producers specializing in railway equipment and components is growing. While the stagnation in road transport raises concerns, the positive financial performance of transport sectors and the potential for minor improvements could lead to stability in the broader logistics market in Poland. The forecasts suggest that stakeholders in the transportation sector need to prepare for these projected conditions as they strategize for upcoming years.
