Real Madrid searches for a successor to goalkeeper Courtois

Real Madrid is preparing for the future of its goalkeeping position, exploring alternatives for Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois before his contract ends in 2027.

Real Madrid has started to prepare for the future of its goalkeeping position, amid reports that the club is searching for potential successors for Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois ahead of his contract expiration in 2027. While the club remains confident in Courtois for at least one more season, they are investigating possible names to fill the role in the years to come.

Among the top candidates being considered is Swiss goalkeeper Gregor Kobel from Borussia Dortmund, and young Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen from Brighton, who has kept 22 clean sheets in 94 matches since joining the club from Anderlecht in 2023. The competition for Verbruggen is intense, with clubs like Bayern Munich, Tottenham, and Chelsea also pursuing him, which could expedite Real Madrid's move to secure his services.

On the other hand, Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, currently Courtois's backup, has the club's appreciation, but he has yet to prove that he is the ideal long-term replacement for the Belgian. Despite these preparations, Courtois has reiterated his desire to finish his career at Real Madrid, stating, "I hope to renew my contract. Playing here is a dream that comes true every season, and I hope to retire at the club." At 33 years old, Courtois remains one of the world's top goalkeepers since joining the royal club.
