Sergipe forecast of rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms until Sunday
Sergipe, Brazil, is under a warning for intense rains, strong winds, and thunderstorms until Sunday, according to the state's environmental agency.
The state of Sergipe is experiencing renewed warnings for heavy rainfall in its southern region, with alerts extending until 11:59 PM on Sunday, October 1. The notification was issued by the State Secretariat for the Environment, Sustainability, and Climate Actions (Semac) on Wednesday, September 25. Meteorological predictions indicate strong winds, thunderstorms, and lightning, with the potential for significant rainfall accumulation over a short period.
The Semac suggests that atmospheric instabilities linked to elevated temperatures and high humidity from both the continental area and the adjacent Atlantic Ocean are conducive to cloud formation and persistence. Forecasts predict that rainfall accumulations could exceed 50 mm per day, particularly in the regions of the agreste and sertΓ£o, where the system is expected to be most active starting Wednesday. Along the coast, moderate to heavy rain is expected from Thursday, September 26.
Wind speeds are anticipated to range from 40 km/h to 80 km/h, which may contribute to further meteorological complications. The weather system requires close monitoring as it poses risks not only from flooding but also from potentially hazardous winds affecting infrastructure and daily activities in affected areas. Residents are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions as the situation develops.
