Exhibition at the Poing Community Center: Once Upon a Time Japan

The Poing Community Center is hosting an exhibition titled 'Once Upon a Time Japan' featuring works by Carolina Veranen-Phillips that explore traditional Japanese art forms until April 16.

The Galerie im Bürgerhaus Poing presents an exhibition titled 'Once Upon a Time Japan,' which showcases the works of artist Carolina Veranen-Phillips. This exhibition focuses on traditional Japanese art forms and includes pieces that emphasize the age-old technique of Kintsugi, where broken pottery is repaired with gold, highlighting the beauty in imperfection and the narrative of the object's history. The free admission exhibition will be on display until April 16, 2024, and opens with a special event featuring Japanese zithermusic on February 26, 2024.

In addition to Kintsugi, the exhibition includes a series of watercolor paintings adorned with gold leaf, which pay tribute to the five elements of Japanese philosophy: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. These elements are integral to many aspects of Japanese culture and art, and Veranen-Phillips's work aims to reflect their significance through artistic expression. The inclusion of Sumi-E, a traditional Japanese ink painting style on rice paper, further enriches the narrative of how nature and artistic tradition intertwine in Japanese aesthetics.

The exhibition can be visited at the Bürgerzentrum Poing, located on Bürgerstraße 1, during selected hours: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM, and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. This cultural initiative not only promotes local engagement with the arts but also invites the community to appreciate the depth and history of Japanese art, fostering a greater understanding of cultural exchange.
