Formula 1, Mercedes once again scouts in Italy: after Antonelli, it's the turn of the very young Perico

Mercedes has signed 11-year-old Italian karting talent Niccolò Perico to its Junior Programme, following the recruitment of Kimi Antonelli.

Mercedes continues its search for young talent to nurture for future Formula 1 driving roles, this time turning its attention to Italy once again. After signing Kimi Antonelli from Bologna, the Stuttgart-based team has now brought on board 11-year-old Niccolò Perico from Bergamo. Demonstrating remarkable skills at such a young age, Perico has already made a name for himself in karting, achieving notable success in the WSK Super Master Series with three finals and three victories.

The decision to include Perico in the Junior Programme, alongside fellow recruit Devin Titz from Germany, reflects Mercedes' commitment to identifying and developing promising young drivers who may one day race for them in prestigious auto championships. Niccolò’s progression mirrors that of established drivers like George Russell and Kimi Antonelli, who have similarly advanced through the ranks to secure seats in Formula 1, highlighting a consistent pathway for talent identified by the Mercedes Formula 1 team.

This move not only emphasizes Mercedes' strategy of investing in young talent from karting categories but also underlines the importance of Italian drivers in the motorsport landscape. With Niccolò Perico under their wing, Mercedes aims to cultivate the next generation of racers, further solidifying its position in the F1 ecosystem as it seeks to maintain competitiveness in the years to come.
