Migrants, Stabilization of Arrivals: Effective Interceptions Off the Coast of Tunisia

A new report indicates a stabilization in the number of irregular migrant arrivals in Italy, attributed to increased interception activities at sea.

In Milan, the new Report on Migration from the Ismu Ets Foundation was presented, revealing a significant contraction in the number of irregular foreign arrivals in Italy. After a peak in 2023 where around 158,000 migrants reached Italian shores, the subsequent year, 2024, saw a dramatic drop to 66,000 arrivals—a staggering 57.9% decrease year-on-year. The data for 2025 has stabilized around the same figure of 66,000, reflecting only a minimal drop of 0.5%.
