Lithuanian citizen who gruesomely murdered a girl hears verdict: stabbed 9-year-old directly in the heart

A Lithuanian man, D. Skebas, has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter after fatally stabbing 9-year-old L. Valutytė in Boston, amidst claims of diminished mental capacity.

D. Skebas, a Lithuanian national, was implicated in the tragic murder of 9-year-old L. Valutytė, who was fatally stabbed in the heart near her mother's sewing workshop in Boston on July 28, 2022. Despite suffering from schizophrenia, Skebas denied murder charges but admitted to involuntary manslaughter due to diminished responsibility, suggesting complex mental health issues surrounding the incident. The mother of the victim, Lina Savickienė, recounted the horrifying moment she discovered her daughter bleeding out while playing with a hula hoop, initially suspecting that a mishap involving the toy might have caused the distress.

In a desperate attempt to save her daughter, Savickienė called for help and tried to cover the wounds as paramedics arrived, but unfortunately, her efforts proved futile. A nearby off-duty police officer attempted to render aid, but despite their best efforts, the girl could not be saved. Skebas's mental competency was initially questioned, as he was found unfit to stand trial in 2023. However, by the spring of 2025, his mental status had been reassessed, enabling legal proceedings to commence against him for the tragic crime that resulted in the death of a young girl and left her family devastated.
