Two leaders of Tunisia's Ennahda movement have been sentenced to four years in prison in connection with the death of former parliamentarian Jilani Debboussi.
On Wednesday, the Tunisian court sentenced two leaders from the Ennahda movement, Nourredine Bhiri and Moncef Marzouki, to four years in prison related to the case of Jilani Debboussi, a former parliamentarian. Debboussi, who previously served during the regime of late president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, passed away on May 7, 2014, shortly after being released from prison where he was held on corruption-related charges. The sentences came amidst a broader judicial process involving serious allegations, including deliberate attempted murder and torture, against the defendants, who have maintained their innocence regarding any wrongdoing related to Debboussi's death.
