Debate on Amendment to the Crime of Distortion of Law... Decision Made by Raise of Hands in Party Assembly
The Democratic Party of Korea debated amendments to a bill regarding the distortion of law, leading to a decision through a hand vote amid concerns over potential unconstitutional implications.
On the 25th, prior to the National Assembly's main session, the Democratic Party of Korea made amendments to a bill regarding the introduction of a new law on the distortion of law, responding to demands from legal experts within the party, as well as progressive organizations like the People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy and the Korean Bar Association, who insisted that further deliberation was necessary to avoid potential constitutional issues. Park Jeung, leader of the Justice Reform Party, who had previously supported the original bill, expressed concern that maintaining the existing provision, which penalizes the deliberate misapplication of laws to advantage or disadvantage one party, could lead to legal actions against lower court judges challenging Supreme Court precedents.
