The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against traveling to Cuba due to an ongoing energy crisis affecting essential services.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a recommendation for citizens to avoid travel to Cuba, which is facing significant energy shortages. They highlighted that individuals currently in Cuba should fill out a travel registration form to facilitate consular assistance if necessary. The advice emphasizes the need for caution and preparedness as the situation in Cuba may lead to disruptions in vital services such as water supply, electricity, and medical assistance.
The ministry pointed out that the energy crisis has led to fuel shortages and prolonged electricity outages, which can last beyond 24 hours. These conditions can severely impact the availability of water, lighting, medical services, as well as transportation and communication. In light of these challenges, travelers are advised to stock up on essential supplies such as food, water, and medications.
Additionally, since there is no Lithuanian diplomatic mission in Cuba, citizens are encouraged to seek assistance from the Lithuanian embassy in the United States or any other EU country's diplomatic missions. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also urging travelers to stay updated through the 'Travel Safely' application to receive the latest information and guidance regarding their safety in Cuba.
