They promise a miraculously easy examination for 1300 crowns. A doctor described patients' experiences

A new internet product claiming to measure blood sugar painlessly has been revealed as a scam, as it delivers a basic pulse oximeter instead of a glucose meter.

An internet seller claims to offer a revolutionary blood sugar meter that requires no pricks or strips, just a simple laser scan of the fingertip for 1300 crowns. However, healthcare professionals are warning that this is a deceptive product, and many consumers have been misled. Reports from oncologist Jan Žaloudík detail multiple inquiries from patients, mostly seniors, who discovered that the purported device does not function as advertised.

According to Žaloudík, several patients from his oncology clinic and even neighbors have reached out to him, confused about why their newly acquired glucose meter does not work. Upon opening the package, they were shocked to find a simple pulse oximeter instead, a device that measures blood oxygen levels but does not serve the purpose of monitoring blood sugar levels. This exposes a significant concern regarding the efficacy of the product and raises alarms about misleading health claims made by online sellers.

The situation has drawn attention to the issue of consumer protection in healthcare-related products, particularly those targeting vulnerable populations such as the elderly. Experts are advocating for stronger regulations and better consumer awareness to prevent the spread of health-related scams that exploit anxiety around chronic conditions like diabetes. This incident underscores the importance of verifying medical devices and claims before purchasing them online.
