Tragedy in Komárno / Part of the roof of the client center collapsed, one person died, two others were injured

A partial roof collapse at a client center in Komárno resulted in one death and two injuries, prompting a response from emergency services including a helicopter.

In a tragic incident in Komárno, Slovakia, part of the roof of the client center on Záhradnícka Street collapsed, leading to one fatality and two individuals sustaining injuries. Emergency services were swiftly deployed, including four ambulance teams, one of which was an air ambulance. This prompt response underlined the seriousness of the situation as authorities worked to assist the injured and investigate the cause of the collapse.

The deceased, identified as a 51-year-old man who was at the center to process paperwork, was tragically killed in the accident. The other two injured individuals, who were also clients at the center, required immediate medical attention, with one suffering a severe spinal injury that necessitated air transport to a hospital, while the other had lighter injuries and was taken by ambulance. The event has drawn considerable attention not only due to its severity but also because it raises concerns about the safety standards of public buildings that had undergone recent renovations.

Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok visited the site of the tragedy and noted that the client center had been renovated in 2018 and 2019. Following the incident, a criminal investigation was launched concerning general endangerment, highlighting the potential legal implications for those responsible for the building's maintenance and safety compliance. This incident may prompt a broader dialogue about building safety regulations in Slovakia, especially in facilities serving the public.
