Railway investments revitalize hundreds of branches of Polish industry

The Polish government is planning a significant expansion of the railway network, aiming to increase passenger numbers and boost related industries.

The Polish government is counting on a steady increase in the number of railway passengers and has plans to extend the railway network by more than 2,000 kilometers, including 1,000 kilometers by 2035. This ambitious expansion comes as part of a broader effort to revitalize the railway and tram infrastructure, which has a total value exceeding 280 billion PLN for nearly 400 ongoing and planned projects, according to a report titled 'Railway Construction in Poland 2026-2031.' This approach is expected to transform not only the transportation sector but also to stimulate various related industries.

The Ministry of Infrastructure has announced that starting in 2027, the Railway Fund will be annually replenished with 10 billion PLN, which will facilitate a stable work front for construction projects related to railways. This funding strategy is intended to ensure the continuous development of the railway infrastructure and promote sustainable growth within the sector. It is a part of a comprehensive national plan to improve rail connectivity and support the economy, particularly through enhanced passenger services.

In addition to prominent construction giants like Budimex and Torpol, numerous suppliers are poised to benefit from these railway orders, including companies like Trac Tec, which produces sleepers and switches, as well as KZM Bieżanów. The vice president of Śrubena Unia highlighted the significance of technological choices in rail laying, noting that each kilometer of rail may require from 1,566 to 1,733 sleepers, with four bolts per sleeper, illustrating the extensive operational scope and investment necessary for the project.
