CCJ of the Chamber chooses Paulo Azi as the rapporteur of the PEC that proposes the end of the 6x1 schedule

Federal Deputy Paulo Azi has been appointed as the rapporteur for the proposal to abolish the 6x1 work schedule in Brazil's Chamber of Deputies, a decision supported by key leaders within the legislative body.

Federal Deputy Paulo Azi from the União party in Bahia has been named the rapporteur for a proposed constitutional amendment (PEC) aimed at eliminating the 6x1 work schedule, a system allowing employees to work for six consecutive days before taking a single day off. This significant development occurred on Tuesday, October 24, during a meeting of the Justice and Constitution Committee (CCJ), which is tasked with reviewing legislative proposals related to constitutional matters. The appointment was endorsed by CCJ President Leur Lomanto Júnior and the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta.

As the designated rapporteur, Azi will be responsible for drafting a report either in favor of or against the PEC. This legislative move could substantially modify labor regulations in Brazil, impacting a considerable number of workers who currently operate under the 6x1 schedule. Following the report's prepared, the PEC will be reviewed by a special committee before it is presented for a vote in the Chamber's plenary session. The proposal stemmed from broader discussions regarding work-life balance and the need for more flexible working conditions, reflecting increasing demands for worker advocacy in Brazil.

The initiative to abolish the 6x1 schedule was originally submitted by Speaker Hugo Motta on February 9 and combines proposals from multiple lawmakers, including Erika Hilton and Reginaldo Lopes. The decision to streamline these initiatives signals a concerted effort to address labor conditions and could reshape the future of work in Brazil, aiming for a more equitable framework that acknowledges the rights and well-being of workers within the evolving economic landscape.
