Melted snow revealed the terrible condition of these streets and sidewalks: documenting depressions, potholes

The melting snow in Klaipeda has exposed the poor state of streets and sidewalks, prompting action from city maintenance crews.

As the snow melts in Klaipeda, the city is facing significant infrastructure challenges, particularly concerning the condition of streets and sidewalks. Inga Kubilienė, head of the City Maintenance Department, reported that although the municipality has only received a few individual complaints from residents regarding the dangerous sections of roads, maintenance companies and inspectors are actively monitoring the situation. In the southern part of the city, roads are being worked on by UAB 'YIT', while the northern area is serviced by UAB 'Kelių priežiūra'.

Kubilienė indicated that they have recorded pothole depths ranging from 5 to 7 centimeters, and some areas require immediate repairs rather than waiting for drier weather conditions. The ongoing work includes temporary fixes using cold asphalt until spring arrives and permits lasting repairs, which will involve asphalt milling and proper patching of the affected areas. Current streets being attended to include Šilutės pl., Taikos pr., Minijos g., and several others, reflecting a broad attempt to address the deteriorating infrastructure.

The municipal government's response highlights an essential aspect of urban management as winter can cause significant wear and tear on public roads. The timely action of road repair crews shows a commitment to public safety and maintaining city infrastructure. As temperatures rise and more issues are likely to surface, the city's proactive measures will be crucial in managing and addressing these emerging challenges in the context of urban maintenance and public service.
