Igor Vitsina, a Russian national, has successfully concluded an extraordinary overland journey spanning 37,000 kilometers from St. Petersburg to Cape Town, which took several months to complete. His adventure was announced by the Russian Consulate in Cape Town, celebrating his achievement. Vitsina conceived the idea for this ambitious trip last summer, intending to reach the Cape of Good Hope driving a vintage 2003 IZh vehicle, which he had bought in 2019 as a personal project. The IZh 2126, known for its modest performance with a 1.6-liter engine and manual transmission, was produced between 1990 and 2005 in Izhevsk, Russia.

The journey proved to be quite challenging for Vitsina, with his route needing to be modified multiple times due to geopolitical issues, notably regional instability and border closures. Initially, he planned to travel through Egypt and Sudan, but those plans fell apart as the Sudanese civil conflict led to the closure of key borders. Instead, Vitsina opted for an alternative path that included destinations such as Georgia, Armenia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Israel, and Palestine, demonstrating a remarkable ability to adapt his plans while navigating through diverse and sometimes tumultuous regions.

This exceptional journey not only highlights the adventurous spirit of one individual but also serves as a testament to the challenges faced by travelers in politically volatile areas.
