Park Jung-hwan, winning prize of 400 million won in the World Go Championship’s 1st match, successfully takes the initiative... Bogeum Park delivers a bouquet
Top-ranked Korean Go player Park Jung-hwan secured a significant victory in the first match of the World Go Championship, setting him on the path to win a prize of 400 million won.
On October 25, Park Jung-hwan, the second-ranking Go player in Korea, achieved a decisive victory against Wang Xinghao from China in the first match of the World Go Championship held at the headquarters of Shinhan Bank in Seoul. Park's win came in just 154 moves, marking a crucial step towards capturing the championship title along with its hefty prize of 400 million won. If he secures just one more win in the next two matches scheduled for October 26 and 27, he will be crowned the inaugural champion of this tournament. The current world record for Go prize money is significantly higher, but the World Go Championship promises annual competitions with a total award pool that is substantial in its own right.
