Tartu's independent cinema, Elektriteater, will reach a significant milestone by celebrating its 15th anniversary on March 1st. The celebration will include a year-long film festival showcasing films chosen by current and former members of Elektriteater. This initiative highlights the key contributions of countless individuals who have passionately worked towards the success of this cinema, emphasizing the importance of community in building a vibrant cultural space.

According to Rasmus Rääk, the curator of Elektriteater, the film program has been carefully curated by 23 individuals who have been part of the cinema, reflecting their personal favorites and the films they believe should be experienced in the communal atmosphere of a theater. The festival serves not only to celebrate the art of cinema but also pays tribute to the people whose dedication has nurtured Elektriteater. Each selection aims to evoke sentiments and provoke thoughts among viewers, ensuring the emotional and intellectual stimulation that comes with watching film in a theater setting.

The first film to kick off the festival is Edward Yang's "Yi Yi" (2000), which provides a gentle and melancholic exploration of a family's inner world.
