Police: Another 'SIM box' farm hit in Vilnius

Lithuanian police have disrupted another 'SIM box' operation in Vilnius, leading to significant arrests and seizures.

The Criminal Police Department of Vilnius has initiated a pre-trial investigation regarding illegal possession of devices and relevant data under Article 198(2) of the Lithuanian Penal Code, amid ongoing actions to combat organized crime. Recently, in an unprecedented move, officers successfully located and raided facilities known for housing 'SIM box' operations, seizing approximately 200 SIM boxes, 100 computers, and 75,000 SIM cards from various international operators.

As part of their continues efforts, law enforcement identified yet another 'SIM box' farm in the heart of Vilnius Old Town, following a series of covert investigative activities. In mid-February of this year, officials executed searches at three distinct locations, culminating in the arrest of an individual who allegedly organized and managed operations at the 'SIM box' farm, further illuminating the ongoing problem of telecom fraud in the region.

This operation underlines the proactive measures taken by Lithuanian authorities to combat telecommunications crimes, highlighting a growing trend of sophisticated criminal activities, and emphasizes the necessity for continued vigilance and collaboration among law enforcement agencies to curtail such illegal setups that undermine the telecommunications sector.
