Wonju City Children's and Social Welfare Meal Management Support Center Operates 'Growing Cooking Class'

The Wonju City Children's and Social Welfare Meal Management Support Center successfully conducted a 'Growing Cooking Class' for local children from February 23 to 25, aimed at promoting healthy eating habits and cultural understanding of food.

The Wonju City Children's and Social Welfare Meal Management Support Center recently wrapped up a successful three-day program called 'Growing Cooking Class', held from February 23 to 25, 2026. This initiative, targeting 100 children from local welfare facilities, aimed to help children develop healthy eating habits and understand diverse food cultures. The program was a continuation of a successful pilot in 2025, which received positive feedback from participating institutions.

During this year's Cooking Class, children engaged in preparing and cooking traditional Vietnamese dishes, specifically spring rolls, providing them with an opportunity to explore different culinary traditions. The hands-on experience involved selecting natural ingredients and cooking, emphasizing the importance of a healthy diet through practical involvement. This approach not only educated the children about food preparation but also allowed them to appreciate the richness of different food cultures firsthand.

Director Lee Hae-young, who is also a professor in Food and Nutrition at Sangji University, highlighted the goal of proving that healthy ingredients can yield delicious meals. She expressed commitment to providing continuous experiential nutrition and dietary education, ensuring that children respect diverse food cultures as they grow up healthily. The program's success reaffirms the importance of integrating nutrition education with cultural experiences in local community services.
