Residents of Mokotów demand the closure of the clinic. 'We are stricken with pale fear'
Residents in the Mokotów district of Warsaw are expressing their concerns about the reopening of a methadone clinic that was previously shut down due to issues related to drug-related incidents in the area.
In Mokotów, a district in Warsaw, a new methadone clinic named Volta-Med has opened at Czerska 18, after operating for eight years at a different location where locals had long sought its closure. The clinic previously faced serious allegations regarding its operations, including incidents of drug dealing and substance abuse occurring in its vicinity. Concerns have been heightened as the new site is situated near a pharmacy, grocery store, school, and kindergarten.
On February 24, a meeting took place between the residents of the Sielce neighborhood and the representatives of the clinic. Many concerned neighbors attended, voicing their apprehensions about the potential resurgence of issues similar to those experienced near the former location. Residents reported feelings of 'pale fear,' highlighting that they are anxious about the potential risks associated with having the methadone clinic nearby, especially with children and families in the community.
The backdrop of this situation includes a government-mandated inspection that previously uncovered irregularities at the clinic, leading to serious doubt about its reliability. Given the history of drug-related incidents tied to the clinic, local residents are now actively calling for its closure, fearing that history may repeat itself in their neighborhood and that safety in the community might be at stake.
