Man breaks promise not to drink and assaults girlfriend after she ends the relationship in MG

A young man assaulted his girlfriend after breaking a promise not to drink alcohol, leading to her ending their relationship in João Pinheiro, Brazil.

In João Pinheiro, located in the Northwest of Minas Gerais, a promise broken by an 18-year-old male to abstain from alcohol resulted in domestic violence against his girlfriend, who is 21. The incident occurred early Sunday when the girlfriend decided to end their relationship after witnessing him consume alcohol, violating the commitment he had made to her. This prompted her to begin gathering her belongings to leave the apartment and stay with a cousin.

As she was packing her things, the young man assaulted her by striking her with punches and pushing her against a mirror, which caused pain to her left arm. After the attack, the victim sought medical attention at a local emergency care unit (UPA) where she was treated and informed about legal procedures available to her as a victim of domestic violence. Despite the serious nature of the incident, the assailant fled the scene and has not yet been apprehended by the police.

The local police, including the Military Police (PM), are actively searching for the suspect, and inquiries have been made by the news outlet G1 regarding updates on the investigation from the Civil Police. However, no statements had been received by the time of the report, highlighting ongoing concerns about domestic violence and the challenges involved in bringing perpetrators to justice in Brazil.
