Half a million dollar reward for finding the tanker

A bounty of 500,000 euros has been posted on LinkedIn for information leading to the finding of a sanctioned supertanker, Omra, which is reportedly owned by a person on the sanctions list.

A LinkedIn post has recently emerged offering a reward of 500,000 euros for information regarding the whereabouts of a large supertanker named Omra, formerly known as Vani. The owner of the vessel is actively seeking to locate the ship, which is currently under sanctions and is reportedly sailing without operational transponders that would allow for tracking. The tanker has a deadweight tonnage of 300,000 tons and last transmitted a signal on February 17 from an anchorage off Johor, Malaysia. It was identified as sailing under the Comorian flag in February, but previously under the flag of Guyana.

The supertanker has been sanctioned by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) since July 2025, indicating its ties to illicit activities. It is believed to belong to Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, an individual who is also listed under U.S. sanctions, highlighting the geopolitical implications of this situation. The act of offering such a reward reflects the owner's urgency to recover the vessel and could indicate potential legal or financial ramifications for those who may encounter the tanker.

The LinkedIn post has gained some traction, receiving responses from interested parties, suggesting that there are individuals willing to assist in locating the tanker for the substantial bounty. This unusual situation underscores the complexities involved in sanctions enforcement related to shipping and maritime operations, especially concerning large vessels that can easily evade tracking efforts.
