Do Poles want a night-time alcohol ban? The survey leaves no illusions

A recent survey indicates that a significant majority of Poles support the implementation of a nationwide ban on alcohol sales during night hours.

In Poland, local governments currently have the authority to decide on alcohol sales bans during the night. A new survey conducted by Ipsos for TVP Info and the program "19:30" reveals that there is a strong public support for implementing uniform regulations across the country. When asked whether they support a ban on the night-time sale of alcohol in stores and gas stations throughout Poland, 41% of respondents answered "strongly yes" and 21% answered "somewhat yes," leading to a total of 62% in favor of restrictions on nighttime alcohol sales.

Opponents of the proposed concept represent a smaller minority, with 17% saying "somewhat no" and 15% saying "strongly no," which adds up to only 32% opposing the idea. The number of undecided respondents is relatively low, at just 6%. This shows a clear trend in public opinion favoring an overall tightening of alcohol sales laws during nighttime, reflecting growing concerns about health and safety associated with late-night drinking.

As more municipalities introduce their own local restrictions on the sale of alcohol at night, the push for a nationwide ban suggests a significant shift in public attitudes towards alcohol consumption and regulation. Such changes could lead to more consistent policies nationwide, aiming to reduce alcohol-related issues and promote public health.
