ICE Detains Poles in the USA. "I Hate Trump"
From January 20 to November 30, 2025, ICE detained 184 Polish citizens for deportation, marking a significant increase from previous years.
According to data from the Polish newspaper 'Rzeczpospolita,' sourced from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the United States' Department of Homeland Security reported that from January 20 to November 30, 2025, 184 Polish citizens were detained for deportation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This represents a dramatic increase compared to previous years, with only 35 deportations in 2022, 44 in 2021, and 102 in 2020, while approximately 70 Poles faced deportation in 2024.
The increase in detentions has drawn attention, though some officials, like Jan Dziedziczak, a member of the Law and Justice Party and former deputy minister of foreign affairs, emphasize that the actual numbers remain marginal. He pointed out that the current deportation rate translates to roughly three individuals per state, which underscores the relative scale of the problem compared to the broader immigration enforcement landscape in the U.S.
The publication of these statistics by ICE, which for the first time included detailed data on arrests and deportations, adds context to the ongoing discussions about immigration policies under the Trump administration and their implications for Polish citizens abroad. This situation raises questions about the broader impacts of U.S. immigration policy on foreign nationals, especially in relation to the political sentiments surrounding Trump's presidency which may influence public opinion among Poles regarding the U.S. government's immigration tactics.
