Naples Hospital in the Hands of the Contini Clan, Four Arrested: Among Them an Attorney
A recent investigation has revealed that the Contini clan had significant control over activities at the San Giovanni Bosco hospital in Naples, leading to the arrest of three alleged affiliates and an attorney.
An investigation by the economic and financial police unit of the Guardia di Finanza, along with the provincial investigative unit of the Carabinieri in Naples, uncovered the Contini clan's extensive control over the San Giovanni Bosco hospital. This was achieved through threats, the use of front men, and collusion with higher-ups in the hospital management. Four individuals were arrested, including three alleged members of the clan and an attorney, pointing to a deep-rooted corruption within the institution.
The investigation, coordinated by prosecutor Alessandra Converso, highlights how the arrested parties, in collaboration with complicit medical professionals, false witnesses, and fraudulent assessments, orchestrated a scheme to defraud insurance companies by staging vehicle accidents. This operation not only represents a breach of the legal system but also emphasizes the intersection of organized crime within public health institutions, raising significant concerns regarding their integrity.
Furthermore, the attorney is accused of maintaining communications between incarcerated clan members and their affiliates outside, indicating the clan's ongoing influence and operations even from behind bars. This case underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in combating organized crime and protecting public institutions from criminal infiltration, as highlighted by the recent significant arrests.
