The People Power Party to Decide on Administrative Integration of Daegu and North Gyeongsang Tomorrow... Leadership Meeting with TK Legislators
The People Power Party will hold a meeting with legislators from the Daegu and North Gyeongsang regions to vote on whether to support or oppose the administrative integration of these areas.
The People Power Party (PPP) is set to meet with lawmakers from the Daegu and North Gyeongsang regions on the 26th to finalize the party's stance on the administrative integration issue. The meeting, scheduled for 10 AM at the National Assembly, will include a vote among the regional representatives to determine whether the party will support the integration. This meeting aims to gather the opinions of regional legislators and come to a consensus regarding the proposed merger.
Despite discussions held in consecutive party meetings on the 23rd and 24th, the PPP has not reached a conclusion on the integration topic, resulting in a split among its members. While the party has officially opposed a separate administrative integration between Chungnam and Daejeon, opinions on the Daegu and North Gyeongsang merger remain divided. Notable figures opposing the integration from North Gyeongsang include lawmakers Kim Hyung-dong, Park Hyung-soo, and Lim Jong-deuk, all expressing concerns about the proposal due to local opposition.
In recent legislative activities, the National Assembly's Judicial Affairs Committee approved only the administrative integration law for Jeonnam and Gwangju on the 24th, initially planned to include the laws for Daegu-North Gyeongsang and Daejeon-Chungnam. However, due to regional backlash, the decision was made to only advance the Jeonnam and Gwangju integration law, highlighting the contentious nature of these mergers across provinces.
