Han River Bus Resuming Full Operations Starting March...Transfers Required at Yeouido for East-West Divisions
The Han River Bus will resume full operations from March 1, following a past accident, with a new transfer system at Yeouido separating routes into east and west.
Starting March 1, the Han River Bus service will fully resume operations after a partial suspension due to a grounding incident last November. The new operational structure will split the route into east and west segments, both starting from Yeouido, where passengers will need to transfer to continue their journey. This decision comes as the Seoul city government has completed dredging and maintenance of shallow areas along the route, ensuring a safer experience for users.
Previously, the Han River Bus operated directly between Magok and Jamsil; however, under the new system, it will operate with 16 trips each for the east and west segments, with approximately one-hour intervals in service times between 10 AM and 7 PM. Those wishing to travel from Magok to Jamsil will have to disembark at Yeouido first and present a transfer ticket, which is to be obtained upon initial boarding, to gain priority boarding for the next boat without additional costs.
The cityβs rationale for restructuring the routes is based on passenger distribution, noting a 23% usage rate from Yeouido. This restructuring aims to enhance navigation safety and operational efficiency, ensuring crew competence as different teams will operate each segment. An additional expedited service during peak hours will begin in April, pending the arrival of newly ordered boats, with trial operations expected prior to full service.
