Diseases are now spreading with holidaymakers across the country – see the map of where norovirus and influenza have been reported
As the winter holiday season peaks in Finland, various seasonal infectious diseases are spreading, particularly influenza A and norovirus, according to health experts.
In Finland, the winter holiday season is in full swing, coinciding with a surge in various seasonal infectious diseases. Teija Puhto, a specialist in infectious diseases at the Oulu University Hospital, stated that as people move around with increased travel during the holidays, contagious diseases tend to spread more easily. The most concerning disease at the moment is Influenza A, which is causing significant fever even in working-age individuals. The current effectiveness of the influenza vaccine has been reported to be lower than in previous winters, which compounds the issue for public health.
