Russia's War with Ukraine. Day 1463
In the Kharkiv region, nearly 100,000 buildings were destroyed or damaged due to Russian shelling, with rebuilding efforts underway supported by Amsterdam's financial aid.
On the 1463rd day of Russia's ongoing war with Ukraine, significant destruction has been reported in the Kharkiv region, where nearly 100,000 buildings have either been completely destroyed or damaged due to Russian shelling, according to OΕeh Synehubow, the regional governor. The devastation primarily affects residential buildings, underscoring the humanitarian crisis faced by the local population. For rebuilding efforts, the Kharkiv region has received approximately 4.5 billion hryvnias (around 370 million zlotys) to help restore the affected infrastructure.
In a significant international response, the Amsterdam authorities have pledged 500,000 euros to support the reconstruction of energy infrastructure in Kyiv. This commitment came following an appeal from Kyiv's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, highlighting the urgent need for solidarity in the face of ongoing air attacks targeting the capitalβs energy systems. The assistance from the Netherlands reflects a broader effort among European nations to aid Ukraine in its reconstruction and resilience against Russian aggression, particularly as the winter months approach.
In addition to the physical destruction, there are troubling reports about the toll of the conflict on Russian forces. Journalists from the Russian BBC service and collaborating volunteers have identified the names of over 200,000 Russian soldiers who have died since the beginning of the war, with the casualty list expanding by 35,000 soldiers in the last month alone. This data indicates that by 2025, at least 90,000 Russian soldiers might have perished in the conflict, presenting a grim picture of the war's human cost and its far-reaching implications for Russian society and military morale.
