Organizations hold event at USP in defense of a code of conduct in the Judiciary
Civil society organizations are set to hold an event at the University of São Paulo advocating for a code of conduct for the Supreme Federal Court.
On Monday, civil society organizations will gather at the University of São Paulo's Law School to advocate for the establishment of a code of conduct for Brazil's Supreme Federal Court (STF). The event, named 'No One Above the Law', aims to promote transparency within the judiciary and restore public trust in higher courts, including the STF. Such efforts come in response to ongoing concerns about judicial integrity and transparency in Brazil.
Leading the protest are prominent organizations such as Transparency Brazil, Derrubando Muros, and Instituto Humanitas 360, alongside law professors from USP, including Conrado Hübner Mendes and Eunice Prudente. Additionally, figures from the corporate and public sectors, like Fábio Barbosa, president of Natura's council, and Pedro Parente, former president of Petrobras and BRF, are participating. This collective effort underscores a broader call for accountability and reform in Brazil's judiciary.
During the event, a manifesto will be read, which has been signed by 200 individuals since its launch last December. The manifesto asserts that an honest and transparent justice system is non-negotiable, reflecting the growing demand for reforms within Brazil's judicial framework. As public discourse continues to focus on the integrity of the judiciary, events like this highlight the importance of civil society's role in advocating for systemic change and transparency in governance.
