Electoral Justice accepts agreement and suspends criminal action against Marçal for false report against Boulos

Influencer Pablo Marçal has accepted a plea deal suspending a criminal electoral action against him related to a false medical report he disseminated against rival Guilherme Boulos during the 2024 elections.

Pablo Marçal, a Brazilian influencer, has recently accepted an agreement from the Electoral Public Ministry to suspend a criminal electoral action against him. This case stems from an incident in the 2024 elections where Marçal, who was then a mayoral candidate for São Paulo, circulated a fraudulent medical report aimed at discrediting his opponent, Guilherme Boulos. The Electoral Justice has approved this suspension, which includes several stipulations that Marçal must follow for a period of two years.

As part of the plea agreement, Marçal is prohibited from visiting bars, nightclubs, and houses of prostitution, a measure imposed to ensure compliance with the law during this suspended period. Additionally, he is required to remain within the municipality of Barueri, where he has declared his residence, unless he obtains explicit judicial permission to leave. Judge Maria Elizabeth de Oliveira Bortoloto of the 386th Electoral Zone of Barueri noted that the agreed-upon conditions are appropriately aligned with the seriousness of the actions taken by Marçal and have the consent of both parties involved.

Should Marçal fulfill all conditions laid out in this agreement within the two-year timeframe, the electoral case against him may be discharged. However, if he fails to adhere to these terms, the proceedings will continue. This decision emphasizes the judicial system's approach to electoral integrity and the consequences of misinformation during electoral campaigns in Brazil, reflecting broader implications for political accountability in the lead-up to critical elections.
