Swedish fighters at the Anápolis air base begin the defense of Brasília's airspace

Swedish F-39 Gripen fighters are now operational at the Anápolis air base to enhance the air defense of Brasília.

The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) has initiated the deployment of Swedish F-39 Gripen fighter jets stationed at the Anápolis air base to bolster the air defense of Brasília. These state-of-the-art aircraft are designed for air defense, ground attack, and reconnaissance missions. The FAB currently has ten F-39 Gripen jets in operation, marking a significant upgrade in Brazil's aerial defense capabilities.

According to the FAB, the introduction of the Gripen fighters in the Central-West region of Brazil will markedly enhance the nation's defense capacity. The operational commencement of these aircraft in the federal capital signifies a technological and operational advancement for Brazil's air power, underpinning national sovereignty and strengthening the Defense Industrial Base. The strategic location of the air base, approximately 160 kilometers from Brasília’s central government area, plays a crucial role in national security.

The F-39 Gripen jets arrived in Brazil in 2022 as part of the F-X2 project, which is a collaboration between Brazil and Sweden involving technology transfer and joint development. This partnership not only modernizes Brazil's military capabilities but also reinforces bilateral ties with Sweden, showcasing a commitment to enhancing national defense systems through international cooperation.
