Rakraki informs Moroccan national team players of his fate before World Cup 2026
Walid Rakraki has reportedly informed the players of the Moroccan national football team that he will not continue as their coach leading into the 2026 World Cup.
Reports from Moroccan media indicate that Walid Rakraki's tenure as head coach of the Moroccan national football team is nearing its end, with an official announcement pending formal procedures. The sports newspaper 'Al-Muntakhab' suggests that only minor details remain before the decision is made public, noting that Rakraki is currently in France and believes he is not the right person to lead the team into the next phase.
Additionally, the Moroccan Football Federation has requested Rakraki to submit his resignation in writing, a step intended to formally and systematically conclude his contract. In parallel, the federation is considering a preliminary list of seven potential successors, which includes both local coaches like Saïd Sadi and Mohamed Wahbi, as well as foreign coaches from Italy, France, and Spain. They are expected to select one of these candidates to guide the national team in upcoming competitions.
Sports journalist Jamal Saifai has also reported that Rakraki has informed key players that he will not be present at the 2026 World Cup, a significant announcement that raises questions about the team's strategy moving forward and who will take the helm as they prepare for future international challenges, including the upcoming World Cup.
