G. Nausėda and V. Zelensky agreed on joint defense systems production for Ukraine in Lithuania
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have agreed to produce defense systems in Lithuania, marking a significant step in military cooperation amid the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.
During a recent announcement coinciding with the fourth anniversary of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed their agreement to establish joint production of defense systems in Lithuania. This initiative is positioned not only as an industrial and technological project but also as a demonstration of political will and strategic partnership between Lithuania and Ukraine. By strengthening the production of shared defense capabilities, the agreement aims to enhance Ukraine's ability to counter aggression and bolster the security of Europe as a whole.
The agreement emphasizes that most of the defense systems and capabilities produced in Lithuania will primarily be directed towards the needs of the Ukrainian armed forces as well as those of the Lithuanian military. The collaborative production is expected to play a crucial role in aiding Ukraine's defense against Russian aggression. Furthermore, Lithuania has committed to fostering an environment that supports the establishment of Ukrainian defense and security companies, including joint ventures, partnerships, and various forms of investment in the country.
In this collaborative effort, it is noted that the cooperation may be partially financed through contributions from Ukrainian entities, although the bulk of the funding will come from other sources. This initiative represents a significant step in Lithuania's support for Ukraine amidst ongoing tensions and illustrates a commitment to regional security and enhanced military capabilities.
