Nora Alicia Biebrich Duarte, the mayor of Bacanora, Sonora, was involved in a shooting incident while traveling from Hermosillo to Mazatán. The attack occurred around 11 AM when armed assailants opened fire on their vehicle. Fortunately, the mayor escaped without serious injuries, aside from some bruises from the vehicle's crash after it veered off the road, but her son tragically succumbed to his injuries sustained during the shooting. He reportedly lost a significant amount of blood due to gunshot wounds to his legs.

The official investigation led by the local prosecutor’s office has ruled out the possibility of a targeted attack. Authorities suggest that this incident stemmed from a traffic altercation, as it appears the mayor and her son were attempting to overtake another vehicle, which did not allow them to proceed, leading to a confrontation. A subsequent chase by the other vehicle ended in the shooting, raising concerns about road rage escalating into violence, particularly in a region already plagued by insecurity and crime.
