65-year-old cyclist killed by car on avenue in Sorocaba
A 65-year-old cyclist died after being hit by a car on Avenida Dom Aguirre in Sorocaba, Brazil.
On Tuesday morning, a tragic accident occurred in Sorocaba, Brazil, where a 65-year-old cyclist was struck and killed by a car on Avenida Dom Aguirre. The collision happened near the Pinga-Pinga Bridge, as reported by Urbes – Traffic and Transport. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the cyclist lost control and crossed into the vehicle's lane, resulting in the fatal incident.
Following the accident, the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and provided assistance to the victim; however, the identity of the driver has not been disclosed. Emergency services, including the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu), arrived promptly to provide medical attention, but unfortunately, the cyclist succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The local police and fire department were also called to the site to manage the situation.
Authorities have since closed off that section of the avenue to facilitate the investigation by the Scientific Police. This incident highlights ongoing safety concerns regarding cyclists on busy urban roads and reiterates the need for continued public awareness and improved infrastructure to protect vulnerable road users in the area.
