BPC asks not to waste the resources of special services: 'Don't shoot blindly'
BPC representatives urge citizens to provide accurate information during emergencies to avoid unnecessary deployment of emergency services.
Representatives from the State Emergency Service of Lithuania (BPC) shared a recent incident on social media, highlighting the importance of thorough reporting when it comes to emergencies. On the morning of February 24, a passerby called the general emergency center reporting a car off the road in the Elektrėnai municipality without stopping to check the condition of the occupants. The lack of proper evaluation raised concerns, urging emergency services to assume a worst-case scenario.
Upon receiving the call, emergency services, including the police, the State Fire and Rescue Service, and ambulance services, rushed to the scene. They were greeted by an empty and locked vehicle, and upon contacting the car’s owner, it was revealed that she had simply left the car after it went off the road and had not checked for any possible injuries or emergencies inside. This incident underscores the critical need for individuals to verify situations before reporting them.
BPC officials emphasized the consequences of inaccurate emergency reports, stating that they are obligated to respond to potential risks to life, which can lead to the unnecessary deployment of services. They encourage the public to be responsible when reporting incidents to ensure that rescue teams can focus their resources effectively in genuine emergencies.
