Lithuania presents a protest note to Russia over ongoing attacks on Ukraine
Lithuania has delivered a protest note to a representative of the Russian Embassy in Vilnius, condemning Russia's continued aggression against Ukraine amid recent attacks.
Lithuania has taken a firm stance against Russia by delivering a protest note regarding the ongoing aggression towards Ukraine, highlighted in a meeting with a representative from the Russian Embassy in Vilnius. This action comes ahead of the fourth anniversary of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine, during which Russia allegedly conducted new missile and drone attacks on civilian areas and infrastructure in Ukraine. These recent assaults have added to the list of war crimes committed by Russia and its military leaders against Ukrainian civilians since 2014.
In the protest note, Lithuania emphasized that there is no statute of limitations for accountability regarding war crimes and international crimes. The country has made it clear that it demands the immediate cessation of aggression against Ukraine and insists on the withdrawal of all occupying forces from internationally recognized Ukrainian territory. Lithuania is seeking reparations for the damages caused by Russiaβs actions, illustrating its commitment to supporting Ukraine in the face of ongoing hostilities.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has previously issued approximately 30 protest notes to the Russian Embassy in 2022, and the current year has already seen at least a similar number. This reflects Lithuania's ongoing efforts to confront Russian aggression and convey its support for Ukraine on the international stage, reinforcing the significance of this issue not just as a bilateral dispute but a matter of broader international security and justice.
