Helsinki restaurant has terrible luck: Water damage destroyed the floors for the second time in three years
A Helsinki restaurant, Pastis, has suffered water damage for the second time in three years due to freezing temperatures, affecting various areas of the establishment.
The Helsinki restaurant Pastis has faced a significant setback as water damage has occurred for the second time within three years, primarily attributed to weather and natural causes. This recent incident happened between February 3rd and 4th, when a cold water pipe burst due to freezing, leading to flooding in the restaurant's interior. Water accumulated to a depth of 5 to 10 centimeters on the kitchen floor and also flowed into the office, dry goods storage, and the building's pump room.
Restaurant owner Samuil Angelov expressed disbelief over the recurring nature of the incidents, noting that he never imagined experiencing flooding or water damage in his restaurant, let alone twice in such a short span of time. The establishment is currently closed as assessments and repair work are underway, with the extent of drying and renovation likely to be determined in the coming days. The first report about this water damage incident was made by Helsingin Sanomat.
Due to the restaurant's closure, all scheduled events and private bookings have been redirected to other venues owned by Angelov. This situation not only affects the restaurant's operations but also highlights the vulnerability of local businesses to extreme weather conditions, raising concerns about similar incidents in other establishments in the area that may not be adequately prepared for such challenges.
