Train travel in Záhorie will be 10 to 12 minutes faster, but not until 4 to 5 years from now
Modernization works on a busy railway line in Slovakia's Záhorie region are expected to improve travel time by 10 to 12 minutes, with completion anticipated by 2027.
The railway line in Slovakia's Záhorie region is set for modernization that aims to allow trains to travel at speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour. Although substantial preparations for this upgrade have been underway for years, various complications have delayed progress. The most current estimates indicate that by 2027, upgrades from Devínska Nová Ves to Malacky will be completed, thus enabling further work on the segment between Kúty and Malacky.
Key milestones in the project include the anticipated completion of an upgraded segment by December 2027, according to the Slovak Railways' general director Miroslav Garaj. This timeline is crucial as it allows for the planning and scheduling of subsequent upgrades to the remaining parts of the line, which connects Bratislava to the Czech border. The project's progression is vital for enhancing travel efficiency and connectivity in this heavily trafficked route.
Delays in the modernization process have raised concerns about the logistics and potential impacts on service while sections are under construction. Nonetheless, the successful completion of these upgrades is essential for improving regional access and service reliability, which is increasingly important given the rising demand for efficient transport links in Slovakia.
