Allegations of religious conversion under the guise of exorcism, women clash with police
A tense situation arose in Bhojpur district, India, over alleged forced religious conversions linked to an exorcist known as 'Pani Wala Baba.'
In Bhojpur district's Ara, tensions escalated in the Chatar village of Pakdariya Tola on Monday following allegations of religious conversions allegedly encouraged by a man known as 'Pani Wala Baba.' Reports indicate that the individual was purportedly prompting unsuspecting locals to convert to a different faith under the pretext of exorcism. Moreover, it was alleged that he was distributing religious texts from another religion, purportedly brought from Nepal, to promote the conversion. Local residents, after learning about the activities, alerted the local Bajrang Dal activists, who, in turn, informed the police. The authorities promptly responded, with officers from the Badra police station arriving at the scene to commence an investigation. Several suspicious individuals present were taken into custody for questioning regarding the allegations. As the police took action, women present at the site began protesting against the police's actions, leading to an escalated confrontation. The situation quickly intensified with verbal disputes and physical altercations between the police and the protesting women. Amidst the chaos, some of the women managed to free the individuals who had been detained. Following the incident, the area remained tense, with ongoing discussions and concern over the events that unfolded.
