The Maranhão Public Prosecutor's Office (MPMA) has launched a civil inquiry to investigate possible violations of the rights of users of the urban public transportation system in São Luís. This inquiry was initiated on Monday, the 23rd, by Justice Promoter Lítia Cavalcanti. The investigation will focus on several parties involved, including the Municipality of São Luís, the Passenger Transportation Companies Syndicate (SET), and various transportation consortia such as Central, Via SL, and Upaon-Açu, along with Viação Primor Ltda.
The inquiry aims to investigate failures in service delivery, including interruptions, structural problems, and potential irregularities in the management, financing, and operation of the public transportation system. It highlights the essential nature of public transport and the consumer's right to adequate public services. Furthermore, the inquiry addresses the principle of tariff equity, suggesting that any price increase should be justified and not excessively burden users.
This investigation follows growing complaints from residents regarding the quality and reliability of the transportation system in São Luís, which have been a significant concern for the community. The MPMA's action emphasizes the importance of accountability within public transport systems and aims to ensure that the rights of users are upheld, promoting improvements in service delivery for the residents of São Luís.
