Court divorces former prime minister Nečas (ODS) and Jana Nečasová, proceedings lasted only ten minutes
The court has officially divorced former Czech Prime Minister Petr Nečas and Jana Nečasová after a swift ten-minute proceeding.
On Tuesday, the court finalized the divorce of former Czech Prime Minister Petr Nečas and Jana Nečasová, his former secretary, in a remarkably brief ten-minute session. The couple reached an amicable agreement regarding their divorce, which was notable given their previous involvement in legal controversies. Nečas resigned in 2013 amid scandals linked to Nečasová, who was his mistress at that time, and both faced convictions related to a bribery case which further complicated their public image.
During the hearing, neither Nečas nor Nečasová attended; instead, they sent their lawyers to represent them. The attorneys presented evidence that the marriage was irretrievably broken down, a statement supported by the absence of children and their prearranged agreement regarding asset settlement. As such, the court's work was expedited, resulting in a very short hearing.
Nečas, who married Nečasová in September 2013 shortly after his previous marriage ended, has been a contentious figure in Czech politics due to his history of controversies, which included misuse of military intelligence and false witness testimony for Nečasová's benefit. The swift divorce could be seen as a final chapter to a tumultuous period in both of their lives, allowing them to move on from their past entanglements in a public sphere that scrutinized their personal lives extensively.
