Dead sailor in Skyros β Transferred to the hospital after feeling unwell
A 47-year-old sailor died on Monday in Skyros after experiencing severe malaise and being transported to several hospitals.
A tragic incident occurred on Monday morning in Skyros when a 47-year-old sailor lost his life after feeling intense malaise. The local Port Authority was informed early in the morning about the case involving a crew member of a passenger-ferry vessel. Initially, the sailor was taken to the local Multi-Purpose Regional Clinic of Skyros, but his health condition was assessed as serious, necessitating further medical attention.
Following the assessment, the sailor was transported by the vessel "Achilleas" to the port of Kymi. From there, he was moved to the General Hospital of Kymi, and subsequently transferred to the General Hospital of Athens "Evaggelismos." Unfortunately, despite the quick succession of medical interventions, doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival at the Athens hospital. The case has drawn attention due to the sudden nature of the incident, raising concerns about the health and safety measures for maritime workers.
The Skyros Port Authority is conducting a preliminary investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the sailor's death. A forensic autopsy has also been ordered by the Athens Forensic Service, which will look into the underlying causes of the sailorβs sudden health crisis, aiming to provide insights into the tragic incident and potentially improve safety protocols for seafarers in the future.
